Outside the Box

It took me a while to formulate this post because of some new information that was passed along to me. As much as I addicted to interviewing, there are times that I committed to an interview but then do not feel like going at all! I have been guilty of just not showing up in which I do not recommend that kind of behavior. It's not a healthy habit in the life of a job searcher.
Recently though information has come to my attention. The fashion/apparel industry is big but at the same time very small. Everyone seems to know each other or somehow be connected. I have found this out by interviewing with different companies.
I have found it to be a good networking tool, one place knows the place you worked before or you find out your cousin knows the person you work with now. It makes people feel comfortable to know the people that we know that they know that we know. Very strange but it works.
Be a little big of a name dropper can sometimes work in your favor. Just make sure it's relevant to the job and the particular company.
I also want to say that facebook works with regards to meeting people and getting contacts. Being bold and having no shame can be a good thing in this case, I hope..... I approached a fashion company I found on facebook just by instant messaging. They told me to email my resume, two days later I had an interview and was given the oppurtunity on the spot. As I was leaving the interview the guy said "If you are brave enough to approach me like that, then you deserve the interveiw." Go out of your way and people will do the same for you. So next time you don't really want to go on an interview, just think twice about it you never know what it could lead to.
